Bearshare, Utorrent, what's next? They are letting their money do the fighting for them and have ruined what was a fantastic product. If the RIAA and MPAA can't kill 'em, they buy 'em and reprogram them. Whatever happens from this point forward is no longer something he's involved in, I believe. I don't see why anybody would want to, especially with the original author no longer coding the program. I for one do not wish to support ANY effort by someone so chummy with the RIAA and MPAA, period. If you wish to use Utorrent, I'd simply say stay with the 1.6 Standard final version and do not use anything after that release.

The fact that Utorrent is now owned and being updated by people that have signed agreements with the RIAA and MPAA and NOT the original programmer, should give anybody pause. That version should be safe I believe and is still an excellent client. My message was more of a provocation, since many people just stick with utorrent without giving a chance to anything else.Utorrent 1.6 Standard, the last final build, was done before the company was purchased and the new code written. rutorrent is a web interface for it and it's probably the best you can find.Īnyway, you should probably test them, or at least look at some screenshots and decide.

rtorrent (+rutorrent) I didn't write that because it's cli only, but if you want something to run on a seedbox (local or remote) this is probably it.

It's written in python and gtk, so the Windows version is probably not that good. It's probably the second most used client on seedboxes, after rtorrent, so it should be supported everywhere. I've found it kinda buggy as well, but it work for some people.

Deluge it's featurefull and overall nice.

It's not accepted by every tracker, but since it's based on libtorrent support should be added if you ask. You can consider it an alternative to Transmission if you just want something that work. Also some people don't like the UI, but it's fine for me. Some people seems to have problems with it, but so far it has been rock solid for me.

QBitTorrent is nice, multiplatform and quite featureful.

Major downside: no official Windows version, there is a port that seems to work fine, but it does seems to have some problems for some people. If you just want something that just work, this is it. It's also accepted by pretty much every tracker, as it's usually used on seedbox.

Transmission is lightweight, small and stable.

My torrent client of choice is now qbittorrent since it seems to just work and has a decent/good interface (Qt is a bonus for me as I use KDE). I go my memory, since I tried those a while ago.

Downgrade utorrent to 2.2.1
